rock stars, worrywarts and flubber

Yesterday Haley had her friend b-day party. I think it went really well. The kids seemed to be having a good time. They thought the photo shoot was cool and their parents really loved the pictures that Scott printed out for everyone. I think 2 hours would have been plenty of time for the party. 3 seemed just a little too long, but there were no major catastrophes so I guess all is well. We put a "welcome rock stars" sign out front, a red carpet leading to the door and the kids all came dressed like rock stars. It was a good time!

Last night at about 10:43 pm I was awakened to crying. Hannah was sobbing in her room. I went in to see what was wrong and she said nothing. I chalked it up to she was having a bad dream and went back to bed. I no more than laid my head down on my pillow and she was sobbing again. I went in and laid in her bed with her and again asked what was wrong. Again she said "nothing". ARGH! I laid there with her for a while and talked with her. Finally she said she was scared about going back to the doctor because she didn't know what was going to happen. Well, I had to admit to her that I didn't know what was going to happen either. She didn't really like that answer, but I told her that no matter what heppened, daddy and I would be there the whole time and we would make sure that the doctor took very good care of her. After that she was able to fall asleep. She is always to bubbly and happy that it is hard to remember that she is also the worrier in the family. Poor kid, I really hope that she just gets a little cast today.

This morning I am very proud of myself. I ran a little over a mile when I got up. I didn't stop to walk at all! May seem like a small accomplishment but with as unmotivated as I have been to work out lately, this is a good thing. Maybe I can get myself moving again. I even did some crunches when I got home. Woo-hoo - time to get rid of this flubber and replace it with fabulous! Hee hee- I guess one day of working out isn't going to get me that far, but it is a start!

11 years and still going

Yup, Scott and I have been married for 11 years. What did we do for our anniversary? Why we worked of course! We spent our anniversary helping someone else have memories for theirs. At least we had a great couple to work with yesterday. The bride was so easy going. It would have really sucked to have a bridezilla. Today Haley is having her friend b-day party. We are doing a rockstar theme. Still not sure how many kids are coming, could be as many as 13. At least it is nice out so if they get bored with the party stuff they can go outside to run in the backyard.

Haley and I are going to transform the basement into a party zone shortly. She is just finishing up with getting her room picked up and then it's time to decorate. I really like hosting parties, I just wish I was more creative with all of the details. We did get some ideas off of the internet so that helps.

Well, I promised Will he could play on the "puter" so I better go for now. I will try to post some pics of Haley's party later!

Who needs an alarm clock

It seems I forgot to turn my alarm clock on last night, but I was still wide awake at 5 am like I should have been. Why- well the monstrous raindrops hitting the window could have woke me up - or maybe it was the fact that there was so much lightning that it looks like the 4th of July. I am glad it's raining though. We were starting to get a little dry here. I know people south of here would be fine if it didn't rain again all summer with all of the flooding they are still dealing with, but after a couple weeks of no rain and 80 degree temps, we could really use it.

Well, Hannah is slowly getting better at using her crutches. She is having a difficult time with not being able to really play. She is such an active kid that this is going to be a hard summer for her. She is our soccer player, daddy's running buddy and Will's favorite playmate. Hopefully things are healing already and she can have a shorter cast next week and for a short amount of time.

So far Haley has been pretty helpful for Hannah. I am sure that won't last too long, but it is nice for now. Will just really wants to play with her crutches. I am sure to a 2 year old boy, those things look like lots of fun!

Oh well, I suppose I should get started on my day. I was on the elliptical for a little bit, but after doing it every day this week, my knees are a little upset with me. I really don't like this getting older crap!

Broken Peanut

Today my little Hannah broke her leg. She fell off the monkey bars and landed just right - or wrong - as the case may be. She has a spiral fracture in her tibia. She has a splint from her toes to above her knee. She goes in next Monday to the pediatric orthopedic doctor for more x-rays and a real cast. Hopefully all she will need is a cast. With kids and broken bones there is always a little worry about growing right, but the dr we saw today didn't say anything that makes me worry too much about that. Poor kid is missing soccer camp and will probably have to miss summer soccer as well. Gonna be a long summer for her I am afraid. Hopefully this is the one and only broken bone we will have to deal with- yeah right- have you met Will? :)

It finally feels like summer!

After all the rainy days and storms, it is finally starting to feel like summer. The grass has even started to turn brown so now we have started watering the lawn. After work last night, I picked up the kids from the studio so Scott could do a wedding consult and engagement pics. We came home, had supper and then I asked the kids if they wanted to run thru the sprinklers. Hannah jumped out of her chair and ran to get her swimsuit, Will said "I want run sprinks", Haley gave me this oh so pre-teen look and said, "I'm not running thru them, that's boring." Fine, whatever. So Hannah is running and squealing thru the sprinklers, Will is crouching next to a sprinkler head giggling every time he puts his hand in the water. I asked Haley to go in and get towels for when they were done. She came back out with 3 towels and ran back inside saying she'd be right back. She came back out with her suit on and low and behold - she ran thru the sprinkler too. She even laughed while she was doing it! With Haley running, Will even got brave enough to run thru the water. It is so nice to see them actually being kids and having fun at it!

They are growing up so fast that times like these will soon just be a memory. I am not ready for that. Hopefully they will give me a few more years of silly little pleasures like watching them run and scream thru the sprinklers!

meanest mom on earth

Yup, that's me. I win this one hands down. My children will vote for me over and over again. This morning Haley said "you're mean!" and then ran to her room. This because I once again told her that when I ask her to do something I expect her to do it right away, not after hanging on me for 10 minutes because she doesn't want to do what I asked. She did later apologize and give me a big hug when I got home from work. Tonight, when Will asked for a snack I said no becuase he didn't eat very good at supper. We are trying to get him to eat better at meal time and get rid of all the snacks that he is constantly begging for. After about the 5th time he asked I told him " mommy said no snack tonight". He prompty walked to the wall and started pouting to himself. Hannah asked him what was wrong - his reply "mommy makes me cry". Now that makes me feel like a million bucks, let me tell you. Well he still gave me a hug and kiss before I tucked him in bed, but he asked me to leave his door open. I don't know why, but I always close the kids' doors when it is bedtime. I told him, no, it's bedtime the door needs to be closed. He looked me straight in the eyes and said "grandma leaves it open, grandma nice." So move over all you mean moms. I win, you can all just eat my dust as I go to claim my prize! Maybe tomorrow my kids will love me again!

Monday, Monday

Well, another weekend down and what do I have to show for it? Ummmm- I'm really tired, does that count? A long wedding Saturday, a seemingly busy day yesterday, but I'm not sure what I did all day. Church in the morning, out for lunch for father's day- we ended up at Fuddruckers. Scott wanted to go to Royal Fork, but we drove by there at 11:00 and the line was already out the door and down the sidewalk. I like their food, but not enough to fight with the kids in line for that long. After lunch we went to Sam's. Spent a lot of money, but didn't get anything fun- as usual. Scott and Hannah headed out to run to mom and dad's. I took Haley and Will to Target for some quick shopping and then we headed to Brandon. Haley had a b-day party from 7-9 and then we all collapsed. I guess when I type it out, we really did have a busy day. Oh and I even got a few loads of laundry folded somewhere in there too!

With such a busy weekend, you think I would have at least one funny to share, but I can't think of any. Will did make grandpa Bakker's father day last night. After he finally ate his supper, he turned to gpa and pointed to the Harley symbol on his shirt. "I ride that motorcyle with you?" he asked. Of course, gpa went right to the garage and figured out a way for Will to ride between him and gma so they could take him around a couple of blocks. I'm not sure who had the bigger smile - Will or grandpa- but I think they both enjoyed the ride!

Well- I suppose I should get to the shower. I did get in some elliptical time this morning, maybe I can get a walk in tonight.

Have a great day!

Oooh I think I made it work!

just a test

Just a test to see if I could put a picture where I wanted- seems I need to keep trying

Hello on-line world!

This is my second attempt at having a blog. This time I might even invite people to read it. I wasn't very good at posting on my last blog, but I knew that no one was checking it either, so maybe knowing I have an audience will get me to put my thoughts out in the open. We'll see. It is Friday the 13th, 5:17am, I am supposed to be working out, but don't wanna. I am so motivated on Monday mornings, by Thursday I just can't get myself going anymore. Part of the problem is I got on the scale every morning this week and all I saw was 1/2 lb gain and then lost again. No real movement, I can lose 1/2 lb by taking a dump- big deal! Well now you know how classy of a gal I am- talking about taking a dump in my very first post. Oh well, why hide the real me?

On a different note, we have a long day with tomorrow's wedding. I start at the salon at 8:30. No sleeping in this weekend! At least I will get to spend some time with Scott at the wedding. I haven't really seen him all week. It's such a hard balance. On one hand, I really want him to be busy and brining in the green. On the other hand, it is kind of hard on our relationship when we don't spend very much time together. I guess we just need to make the time that we are together count.

I took Will and Hannah to the pool yesterday. Hannah is getting really comfortable with playing in the water- she still drinks way more pool water than can be healthy for anyone, but she is getting better all the time. Will on the other hand- we start walking into the water and as soon as it hits the bottom of his swim shorts he starts freaking out "my pants are wet, my pants are wet". You would think he had just peed himself as upset as he was. I had to go to the oober shallow and back to the still pretty shallow with him a few times before he got over the first issue of the day. Later, he was watching kids go down one of the little slides and he said " I want to go on that". Well, I explained that his face would get wet and asked if he still wanted to go "no way" was his oh so cute response. It took about 5 more minutes before he asked to go again- this time he asked Hannah and she so dutifully drug him to the top of the stairs and gave him a little shove down the slide. I stood at the bottom to make sure my baby wouldn't drown, but I made sure he did get his face wet before I pulled him out. 5 minutes of sobbing about a wet face and he was ready to walk the oober shallow part again. A little while later Hannah was trying to show off for Will and she put her face in the water. Must have looked easy, cuz Will immediately bends over to put his face in the water. Not sure what he thought was going to happen, but he came up sputtering and screaming. That was it, he didn't want anything to do with the pool anymore. He made it 40 minutes and he was done! Granted he hadn't had a nap yet and it was almost 3:00 so a little slack is needed. Hannah played for a little longer and then we headed home. On the way home I asked Will if he had fund. "YEAH!" Do you want to go again "NO WAY!" Silly little boy.

Well I suppose I should at least do some crunches or something so that I don't feel like a complete tub of lard. Hope you enjoyed day 1 of my new blog!
